I absolutely love when my clients request film engagement photos! Capturing engagement pictures on film is such a fun, nostalgic way to preserve those memories. Plus, black & white film just makes things look extra nostalgic!
There’s no denying that film photography has made its comeback. It’s very popular nowadays to see disposable cameras on wedding tables, polaroids for guest books, and celebrities having their wedding day photographed on film. Here’s why I think film is back in style…
Film captures textures and tones in a way that digital photos simply do not. That added layer of texture triggers our emotions and make us feel more nostalgia. We are bombarded with digital images on screens all day long: our phones, television, social media… And we’ve become somewhat desensitized to them.
But when we see a film photo, it triggers a different part of our brain than the one we’ve used all day. It stands out as significant and unique. It leaves a greater impact.
In my opinion, our society has rediscovered the value of raw, authentic, untouched, unapologetic beauty. And that’s exactly what film photography is.
Film Photographer
As a wedding photographer, I offer my clients the option to add a roll of film (or two or three!) onto their engagement sessions and wedding packages, because I believe it is so special.
Some people say that film is even more timeless than modern day digital photography.
Others appreciate the aesthetics and the story that film tells.
In my opinion, your wedding season only happens once and you’ve invested so much time, energy, and resources into planning it, so why wouldn’t you preserve your memories in as many forms as possible?
