2020 may be the year of cancellations, but intimate weddings & dreamy elopements will never be canceled. This particular Michigan elopement, was one of the most magical elopements I’ve captured to date.
Let this be proof that even amidst COVID and the restrictions it has put on destination weddings and elopements, you can still get creative and have an exotic, unique wedding in Michigan!
Silver Lake Sand Dunes
This elopement took place at Silver Lake Sand Dunes. The sand dunes are so magical, especially at sunset. It truly feels otherworldly. I felt like I had been transported to somewhere exotic that I would never affiliate with anything in the Midwest.
We all felt like we were in the middle of a Moroccan desert. However we were really just in our own backyard exploring a new corner of Michigan!
With elopements in beautiful places, it’s always best to let the location speak for itself. I recommend keeping your decorations simple, and playing off of the natural beauty of the location.
They chose to stick with a mostly neutral color palette with hints of blush and warm tones. This was a summer elopement happening during golden hour, so they chose to play off of that golden light and neutral backdrop of the sand dunes without taking away from them.
Kelsey & Tim had their first kiss under an incredible, boho dried floral half-moon arch. They popped champagne and shared geometric macarons. All along, the sunset cast a perfect golden glow over the dunes.
It was so magical that I seriously forgot I was still in Michigan by the end of the night!
In my opinion, you can still get creative, be original, make it personal, and get freaking married!! I’m a firm believer that marriage will never be canceled.
