Why Film Photography

As a photographer, I am always making an effort to stay on top of the latest photography trends and be an industry leader. I owe it to my clients to be constantly learning and growing in my craft so that I can best capture their memories, like these beach film engagement photos

Because of that, I have been so excited to start incorporating film photography at all of my weddings and engagement shoots! 

There’s no denying that film has made its comeback. We see it everywhere now in various formats- disposable cameras on wedding tables, polaroids for guest books, celebrities having their wedding day photographed on film…

Here’s why I think film is back in style: Film photography captures textures and tones in a way that digital photos simply do not. That added layer of texture triggers our emotions, making us feel even more nostalgic. 

We are bombarded with digital images on screens all day long: our phones, television, social media… And we’ve become somewhat desensitized to them. 

But when we see a film photo, it triggers a different part of our brain than the one we’ve used all day. It stands out as significant and unique. It leaves a greater impact. 

Some people say that film is even more timeless than modern day digital photography. Others appreciate the aesthetics and the story that film tells. For these reasons, I wanted to start offering film for my clients who value timelessness, nostalgia, and raw memories.

Lake Michigan Beach Film Engagement

Jessica and Jake chose to have their engagement photo session captured on film at the beach. Their 2024 wedding will take place on the shores of Lake Michigan, so it made perfect sense to capture their engagement photos at the same place.

Between their Dom Perignon champagne toast, and the incredibly colorful sunset, it was the perfect night. I am so in love with how their beach film engagement photos turned out.
