Being a Grand Rapids-based wedding photographer, I have seen so many different Michigan weddings. Including barns and ballrooms, greenhouses and mansions, gardens and beachfront, and more. However, this wedding was a first for me! Watching the bride and groom paddle away in a canoe at sunset was a new and amazing experience for me!
Emma & Matt had originally planned a large wedding at Venue 3Two, a mansion venue in Grand Rapids. Due to COVID, their plans changed. As a result, they ended up having just their family get together for this intimate backyard wedding. They held the ceremony and reception at Matt’s parent’s lakehouse, and it was the perfect place. It was simple and quaint. As well as an emotional and special day for everyone involved (myself included!).
Their ceremony was short and sweet. Then, they even had a drive-by cocktail hour where all of the family and friends who couldn’t come anymore drove by in their cars to wish them congrats.
Later, Emma & Matt hopped into a canoe and paddled away from their wedding straight into the sunset. It was pure magic! I cannot think of a more romantic way to leave a wedding reception!
Take a Moment
I always tell couples to schedule some alone time into their wedding. Whatever that looks like, take a moment to step back together away from all the guests and soak it all in.
For Emma & Matt, it was their canoe ride into the sunset. This was their moment where they could be just the two of them, and soak up all the goodness of the day.
This time away will allow you to remember why everyone’s here, all the time you spent planning, and all the reasons you love this person. Nevertheless, after the sun sets on your wedding day, the real adventure begins!
If you are planning to have your own Michigan wedding, send me a message! I’d love to help you plan the perfect day and think of creative ways to make your day personal and unique like this one.
